April 2018

April 9 - Troop Meeting

Troop meeting.  No patrol meetings.  The troop meeting focus is on Citizenship.  We will have a Guest Speaker who is currently active in the Military.  Youth interested in the JROTC, the military, or who just want to hear an interesting speaker to learn more about Military service should plan to attend.

Swim Tests (April 12, 14, & 17)

Swim Tests will be offered at the Lifetime Fitness indoor pool located at 20515 W. Lake Houston Pkwy, Humble, TX 77346.  This is the Lifetime near the intersection of WLHP and Upper Lake Dr.  The facility is graciously offering their pool to us to use for swim tests at no charge, but they have asked us to park behind the building and walk around to the main entrance so that their paying members do not have to park in the back.

All Scouts AND adults attending summer camp must have a swim test!  Additionally, any Scout that plans to attend any of the water camping trips (canoeing, Schlitterbahn, etc.) within the next year, but is not going to summer camp, is highly encouraged to come take a swim test so he can participate in those campouts.  There is no need to sign up to come take the test, just show up on any of the following dates and times:

·         Thursday, April 12th from 7:15 – 8:30 pm

·         Saturday, April 14th from 1:00 – 2:30 pm

·         Tuesday, April 17th from 7:15 – 8:30 pm

April 14 – Scout Fair

Volunteers will be needed to support activities planned at the Scout Fair. Look for the sign-up sheet and permission slip at the troop meeting entrance tables. There are 1-hour time slots available from 9:30 to 3:30. You can sign up for more than one!  Our Troop will be making rope with our rope making machine and giving it away to participants as they stop by.

This is a great opportunity to participate for an hour or two and then spend some time seeing all of the other activities, skills, demonstrations, and even eating amazing food prepared by Scouts during the rest of the day!  Location is at the NRG Arena.

April 16 – Patrol & Troop Meeting (Scoutmaster Conferences Available for “Scout” Rank)

Patrol meetings start at 6pm for all patrols.  The Troop meeting will follow shortly afterwards at 7pm.

Scoutmaster conferences will be offered for the Outlaws & Panthers from 6-6:50 during the Patrol meeting on this date.  In parallel, they will be focusing on sign-offs and helping with Scout skills for the rest of the patrol members. A sign-up sheet will be provided at the meeting on April 9th so be sure to sign up if you can be ready by the 16th!  You must reach this rank to join us on the Padre National Seashore & USS Lexington campout.

April 16 – Merit Badge & Activity Enrollment Packets Due!

The Merit Badge & Activity Enrollment packets were distributed last Monday at the Troop meeting.  If your Scout did not bring home the forms, an email was sent with the packet as an attachment.  Form #4 is due back to Kelsey Elliott by April 16th to give Scouts the chance to be enrolled in their classes as soon as the camp allows.

April 20-22 – Padre National Seashore & USS Lexington

Camping on the seashore and touring the USS Lexington will provide unique opportunities to gain a better appreciation for our military history while enjoying the beach-like campgrounds!  6:00 PM Friday check-in at FPCK, DEPART AT 6:30 PM.  We really need to make sure everyone is on time to help our Scouts & adults get the rest they need to safely enjoy the weekend experience!
